After all the witty, and not so witty puns have been made about the brand name. John Hughes’ Rieslingfreak is a showcase for John’s passion for the variety, and resounding proof that following your dreams, combined with hard work is the best roadmap to success.

John’s up-bringing could not have been scripted any better. As a Clare Valley (South Australia) native, he grew up in Australia’s Riesling heartland. With his first home situated on a Riesling vineyard in Penwortham, John’s philosophy on Riesling has been moulded, and inspired, by the German interpretation on the variety. That is, creating a union between regional and winemaking styles to undercover the fullest expression that Riesling can reveal. The way in which John varies residual sugar levels, ripeness levels of the fruit, and even fortification, provides him the flexibility to craft nine different wines, all have a unique winemaking ethos and individual personality.
