Brokenback Vineyard was planted in the mid to late 1970’s by a Rothbury Estate Syndicate led by the late Len Evans AO, OBE. Over the ensuing years the vines have produced premium wines which have been sold under a variety of labels.
The current vineyard has 50 hectares under vine, comprising Chardonnay and Semillon on the flat graveled soils and Shiraz on the eastern and western-facing slopes of the adjacent rise as well as Verdelho and Tempranillo which were planted in 2009.
The two sets of cast-iron front gates to Brokenback Vineyard carry a lion rampant. Hence the name, logo, and wine label “Leogate Estate”.
