Penley Estate is a small and serious maker of Coonawarra wines, principally rich and briary reds from cabernet sauvignon, merlot and shiraz.
Its red wines retain relatively high alcoholic levels around 15%, delivering a plush, ripe and generous presence of rich fruit, typically presented with plenty of oak.
As a result, they don't fit the classic, leaner and longer-term Coonawarra mould, but instead make for a sumptuous, smooth and earlier-drinking experience.
