Portree was established in 1983 following Ken’‘s viticulturist studies at Charles Sturt University. It was there that the link between climate and wine style became a special interest.
There followed, a search encompassing the Adelaide Hills, Tasmania and other parts of Victoria before settling on 16 hectares of well draining Red Basalt (of Cambrian origin) in the Macedon Ranges. Here we are able to produce wines with distinct European cool climate characteristics and wines which compliment Australia’‘s burgeoning fine food industry.
