Robert Oatley Vineyards marked Bob Oatley’s return to the wine making business. Without doubt one of the most remarkable wine success stories to come out of Australia. Following the sad passing of Bob, his son Sandy has taken on the reins and has proved lightening can strike twice. This family venture is second time round after building Rosemount Estate into a truly global wine brand. Choosing to move into tourism and hospitality with their Hamilton Island purchase, winemaking looked to be playing second fiddle in their family business. Nothing could be further from the truth, the Oatleys have utilized the experience and knowledge of many of the old Rosemount team, including the inexorable and adept Chris Hancock.
The inspired choice of Larry Cherubino as Director of winemaking and broadening their vineyard sourcing, has seen Robert Oatley wines go from strength to strength. In true Oatley style the combination of smart packaging, clear range hierarchy, clever PR and making quality wines with a varietal / regional connection has set a new chapter in their winemaking success story. The WA Rieslings and Chardonnays are exceptional.
