Tellurian Wines Heathcote was established in 2002 by Ian Hopkins with the purchase of a parcel of farming land on the western slopes of the Mt Camel range, overlooking the township of Toolleen. The original Tellurian vineyard was planted to Shiraz that year, with further Shiraz plantings in 2003, 2006 and alternate varietal plantings in 2011 and 2012.
In 2006 Winemaker Tobias Ansted and viticultural consultant Tim Brown joined Tellurian in preparation for the first vintage, which produced the 2008 Tellurian Heathcote Shiraz. In 2009 the first Pastiche Shiraz was introduced, combining fruit from both our Tranter Rd Vineyard, and the Tuohey family vineyard on the eastern side of the Mt Camel Range.
The wines from the 2012 vintage, were the first made in our new winery in Tranter Rd Toolleen. The new winery was built to 100 tonne crush capacity and includes three 5000L French oak fermenters, seven concrete (stainless steel lined) fermenters and a bank of seven open top stainless steel fermenters.
