Just when you pigeonhole Bill Downie as a pinot noir specialist, he goes and releases a rather chalky, spicy and almost savoury dessert wine grown in the King Valley, from petit manseng! Downie sources his pinot from different individual sites on the Mornington Peninsula, in Gippsland and the Yarra Valley.
The only one he has released from 2009 is the Mornington Peninsula wine, which while not showing Downie at top form it was not the easiest season ever does present charming and ethereal pinot quality.
